Alex Torra is a director, producer, performer and educator based in Philadelphia.

He works primarily as a director of original, devised theater — both freelance, and as the Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Team Sunshine Performance. Torra’s work centers long-form ensemble process, theatrical non-fiction, and performance as a tool for community connection and collective reflection.

  • Esto No Tiene Nombre at Playwrights Horizons

    This December, Denice Frohman and I will be participating in the New Works Lab at Playwrights Horizons in NYC to continue development on this project. We’re in talks with a potential presenter to officially premiere the show this summer…stay tuned!

  • The Great American Gunshow: Kentucky and New Orleans in 2026-7

    This December we begin the Appalachia iteration of The Great American Gunshow, working in collaboration with Appalshop — a vital Appalachian arts and media center that has spent more than fifty years creating films, radio, theater, and community projects rooted in real regional stories, work that’s become essential to how Appalachian communities see themselves, preserve their histories, and imagine their future.

  • The Great American Gunshow: Philadelpiha Premiere

    This past summer, we presented The Great American Gunshow: Philadelphia. Here in our hometown, we conducted more than 75 hours of interviews that shaped an event featuring an exhibition, tabling from local service organizations, and a performance piece that took place at Safe-Hub in Kensington.

  • Your Optimism is not Required Tour

    In late September, we toured Your Optimism Is Not Required to two locations in Michigan. First, we were hosted near the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor campus by Jake Hooker, a professor in the Residential College. The second iteration took place in Detroit at A Host of People’s new building.
